Petre Inspirescu - Vîntul Prin Salcii
Starting again to post some thoughts on LPs from my collection as I listen to them. This is one of Petre's more refined efforts, straying away from the dancefloor but doing a more fluid and subtle job of incorporating his classical leanings than his outright classical works. Extremely melancholy in tone and in parts echoing Reich, there's a certain austere, reserved tone that unfolds at a glacial pace. Deadly serious, this lacks the playfulness of his career high (for me) debut album Intr-o Seara Organica... but it is fully assured, and confident in what it is trying to achieve. The more jazz leanings of the slowly unfurling Miroslav 7 on side D being a particular highlight, stretching out for 12 minutes of improv piano and what sounds like cello.
